Cardiff Rivers Group (a 2015 Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service winner) work all around our city’s rivers, waterways, wildlife sanctuaries and parks. Meeting up every three weeks every time in a different location around Cardiff’s waterways – a good 25-40 volunteers turn up and ‘make a difference!’ They have made a significant positive impact in leading by example:
- Cleaning up our river and waterways of horrible litter.
- Recovering metals (e.g. trolleys, discarded scrap) and delivering to recycling centres.
- Recycling funds into new projects – and supporting set up of other voluntary bodies and social enterprises.
- Being a role model and inspiration to many around them.
Cardiff Rivers Group main plan is to clean up as much litter from the river banks as well as remove trolleys, tyres and other debris from all Cardiff rivers and estuaries – supporting making our waterways cleaner and safer!
As you can see from the video, the events are always lively and Cardiff Rivers Group are always actively looking for more volunteers to join them.
On Saturday 31st January 2015 Cardiff Rivers Group celebrated their 100 event (2009-2015); a milestone after a challenging start up. We look forward to them celebrating event #200 in 2019/2020.
Our volunteers come from all walks of life in and around Cardiff – featuring regularly in the local press, here one of the CRG regulars makes good on print:
Please consider joining in with their efforts and help clean up the river systems around Cathays (and other districts of Cardiff.)
Please get involved with Cardiff Rivers Group, meet new friends, be part of something great (not the great drinking sessions afterwards)- let the good days role!!!
